A Dhaka court on Thursday sent to jail 26 HSC candidates in a case filed over the students’ demonstration on Bangladesh Secretariat premises a day earlier, violating the site’s special status. In a press release, police later claimed that in initial interrogations, all the arrestees confessed to be involved with Chhatra League (BCL).
About 28 other HSC students detained over Wednesday demonstrations were handed over to their guardians, said investigating officer Ikramul Haque, also a sub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station.
In total, 54 students were detained for demonstrating to press home their demand of allowing every failed candidate of HSC 2024 exams to pass by re-evaluating their results based on SSC performance.
