ICT officers reiterate call for separate cadre

Staff Reporter:

The Government ICT Officers’ Forum has urged the authorities concerned to create a separate cadre of information and communication technology (ICT) to adapt to new challenges in the emerging sector.

The officers made the call during a meeting with ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury recently, read a press release on Thursday.

Tomig Uddin Ahmed, president of the forum, Joint Secretary Md Moniruzzaman, Treasurer Zikra Amin, Executive Committee members Azimul Islam, Shamsuddin Ahmed, and Masum Billah were also present on the occasion.

During the discussion, the forum leaders said the ICT capacity of the country is not being developed as the government’s ICT officials are working separately in different departments.

In 2020, the previous government collected the data of computer officers of ninth grade and above for creating the ICT cadre, but for unknown reasons, the process was not completed.

Secretary Shish Haider said the demand for a separate ICT cadre is logical to promote talented officers in different departments. He assured his support behind the advocacy.
