Chattogram: Floods continue to wreak havoc across Chattogram, with five confirmed dead and thou-sands of families stranded. The affected areas include 11 upazilas, where at least 100 unions have been submerged.
According to the Chattogram district administration, the flood situation is gradually improving in all upazilas except Mirsharai. The damage has been severe, with three fatalities reported in Fatikchhari, and one each in Hathazari and Rangunia. One of the victims lost their life due to electrocution in the flood-waters.
Assistant Commissioner Fahmun Nabi reported that approximately 250,000 people from 50,000 families are currently stranded. In response, the government has allocated 1,300 metric tons of rice and 3.5 mil-lion taka in cash for relief efforts. So far, 455 metric tonnes of rice and Tk 19 lakh have been distribut-ed.
Rescue operations are underway, with 50 boats deployed in Mirsharai and 10 in Fatikchhari. The efforts are being supported by the army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and several volunteer organizations, according to Chattogram District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md. Saifulah Majumder.
Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with rescue teams as efforts continue to provide relief to those affected by the disaster.
