15% telecom towers inoperative in 12 flood-hit districts

At least 15% of the total 12,250 telecommunication towers in the 12 flood-affected districts were rendered inoperative as of Friday morning, with Feni bearing the brunt of the communication blackout.

In the affected districts, over 10,440 telecom towers were still functioning, while 1,807 towers were not, as per data from Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

About 92% or nearly 600 of the 656 towers in Feni became non-functional after major sections of the towers went under water.

The army has started working with BTRC to resume operations at the towers, but the task has proved to be impossible in major submerged areas including Feni district.
