AB Party receives regi from EC following HC order

Staff Reporter:

The Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) has received official registration from the Election Commission (EC) following a writ petition and subsequent orders from the High Court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
This information was announced on Wednesday, August 21, through a notification signed by EC Secre-tary Shafiul Azim. The notification stated that, based on the High Court’s verdict and orders, the Elec-tion Commission has granted registration to AB Party as a political party under the provisions of the Representation of the People Order, 1972. This decision was made during a full meeting of the Election Commission yesterday.
The notification further mentioned that the party has been assigned registration number 050, and its elec-toral symbol is the “Eagle.”
Earlier, on August 19, the High Court directed the Election Commission to register the Amar Bangla-desh Party as a political party.
The order was issued by the High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque. The High Court had previously issued a rule on August 31, 2023, asking why the Amar Bangladesh Par-ty should not be registered as a political party.
