Staff Reporter:
The Bangladesh Police Headquarters has instructed all district police superintendents and officers-in-charge (OC) to form security committees comprising local citizens in every police station area.
The committees will include respected local figures, such as retired police and military officers, senior citizens, political leaders, human rights activists, and NGO representatives.
The primary goal of these committees will be to develop an action plan to monitor and evaluate law enforcement efforts, according to a press release issued by the Bangladesh Police Headquarters.
The directive aims to restore law and order by increasing community involvement and addressing local security issues.
The committees will coordinate joint patrols between law enforcement and committee members to prevent crimes such as theft, robbery, and vandalism.
They will also mediate local disputes and ensure the safety of public life, property, and minority religious institutions.
They will also work to resolve tensions between local political and religious groups and promote social harmony.
