The Jatiya Party (JP) has extended its full support to the student movement and demanded the release of all people detained in false cases filed recently across the country.
Meanwhile, several leftist parties demanded the resignation of the Awami League government taking responsibility for the recent killings.
In a statement on Saturday, the Jatiya Party said more than 20,000 people, including JP activists, were apprehended in false cases in the ongoing anti-discrimination movement by general students in the country. The party demanded to release all of them immediately.
The statement signed by JP Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu urged the government to accept the students’ demand to ensure peace in the country.
More than 200 people were killed and over 10,000 others were injured by attacks of law enforcement agencies as well as the Awami League and its associate bodies – Jubo League and Chhatra League, read the statement.
“If the government accepted the demands, today’s situation would not occur. The police publicly killed people by firing bullets. But students and general people are accused in the same cases,” it said.
In another statement, several leftist parties, including the Left Democratic Alliance, Bangladesh JaSad, Anti-fascism Left Alliance, and Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), expressed concern over the situation in the country and demanded the resignation of the Sheikh Hasina-led government.
