The father of Sumon Kumar Ghorami, 35, a member of the police, who was killed in a clash with demonstrators in Khulna on Friday, has yet to be informed about the death of his son.
Sumon hailed from Kismat Malipatan village under Kachua upazila in Bagerhat.
Relatives and neighbours said on Saturday that Sumon’s father Shushil Kumar Ghorami, a freedom fighter, is physically ill now as he suffered stroke three times.
They said Shushil Kumar was not informed about the matter due to his poor health.
However, Gita Rani, mother of the policeman, came to know about her son’s death. She has been taken to a relative’s house nearby. Relatives tried to console her, but nothing could stop her lamentation.
Samar Krishna Ghorami, a friend of Sumon, said they passed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination together. Later, he passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exam and joined the police.
Sumon lived in a rented house with his wife and their lone daughter in the Pujakhola area of Khulna city.
