Shanir Akhra turns into battlefield as police, protesters clash

Intermittent clashes between police and students over the quota reform movement turned Dhaka’s Shanir Akhra into a battlefield on Wednesday.

At least six people, including a man and his minor son, sustained bullet wounds during the violence.

The injured – Babu Mia, 50, Rohit Mia, 2, Md Foysal, 18, Monirul Islam, 20, Piyash, 17, and Md Sohag Mia, 27 – were taken to the Emergency Department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The clashes erupted in the evening while the toll plaza of Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover and a police box were set on fire.

In the afternoon, demonstrators blocked the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, halting traffic movement.
