Police won’t remain idle in case of any unwanted situation: Home minister

Staff Reporter:

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that students protesting for the reform of the quota system in government jobs are crossing limits by continuing their demonstrations, but police will not remain idle in case of any unwanted situation.

He made these remarks during a press conference in observance of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the Secretariat on Thursday.

The Home Minister said, “We have instructed our security forces, especially the police, to listen to their demands. However, there must be a limit to this, which they seem to be exceeding.”

“The Chief Justice clearly stated that the High Court’s directive, which reinstated the quota, has been stayed until the ongoing case is resolved. Therefore, the High Court’s order is currently ineffective,” he added.

The Home Minister urged the students to understand the situation, stop their protests and present their demands before the court.
