Court orders seizure of ex-NBR official Matiur’s 4 flats, 8 acres land

Staff Reporter:

Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of four flats and eight acres of land belonging to former National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman and his family.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain passed the order on Thursday following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The court came up with the directive amid the ongoing legal proceedings against Matiur Rahman for his indulgence in corruption.

Three out of the four flats are located in the capital’s Bashundhara residential area and those are registered under the name of Matiur’s first wife, Laila Kaniz Lucky, who is currently chairman of Narsingdi’s Raipura Upazila Parishad.

Besides, the rest one is located in the city’s Jhigatola area and is registered under the name of his second wife, Shammi Akhtar Shbli.

The ACC on 2 July, issued a notice asking Matiur to submit his wealth statements along with information of the assets possessed by his wives and children.

The ACC also said that it will go for legal action if he fails to submit the asset statements within 21 working days after receiving the notice.

Matiur Rahman recently came to the limelight as his son from second marriage attempted to purchase a goat for Tk15 lakh from Sadeeq Agro ahead of last Eid-ul-Azha.

The anti-corruption watchdog launched an investigation probe against the former NBR official on 4 June by forming a three-member team.
