Seven transport extortionist held in city

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested seven members of a transport-extortionist gang from the city’s Jatrabari and Sonir Akhra areas.
The arrested were identified as Md. Abu Hanif, 35, Md. Abul Basar, 40, Md. Jasim Khan, 35, Md. Is-mail Hossain Joni, 44, Md. Akash, 50, Md. Usuf Bapari, 40, and Russel, 27, said MJ Sohel, assistant director (media) of RAB-10, yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-10 conducted a drive in Jatrabari at around 12:45 pm and in Sonir Akhra at around 7:30 pm on Monday, M J Sohel said, adding RAB personnel also recovered Tk 9,190 in cash, four sticks and seven mobile phones from their possession.
Legal action has been taken against them, he added.
