Rohingya militant commander arrested in Cox’s Bazar

RAB has arrested a Rohingya militant for his alleged involvement in smuggling in weapons from conflict-torn Myanmar and conducting sabotage activities within refugee camps in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

Mohammad Zakaria is a gun commander of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), and was apprehended with a G3 rifle from the Balukhali Rohingya Camp-10 in Ukhiya.

RAB-15 officer Lieutenant Colonel HM Sazzad Hossain confirmed Zakaria’s arrest on Thursday night at a press briefing on Friday.

Zakaria was imprisoned twice earlier in cases filed with Ukhiya Police Station over his roles in sabotage, fighting, arms and drug trafficking, kidnapping and killings within the Rohingya camps.
