PM Hasina’s India visit deferred by a day as Modi likely to take oath on Sunday

Staff Reporter:

Prime Minister Hasina’s India visit has been deferred by a day as Narendra Modi is likely to take oath as the Prime Minister of India on 9 June instead of 8 June, according to source.

All foreign dignitaries are requested to defer their visits to India in line with Modi’s oath-taking schedule.

It is also learned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina may visit India again for a comprehensive dialogue in July, according to sources.

After his party’s victory in the national election, Narendra Modi submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu on 5 June ahead of his oath-taking ceremony.

BJP-led NDA returned to power for 3rd term, securing 293 of 543 Lok Sabha seats.

TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu’s oath ceremony was also pushed to 12 June.

The President accepted Modi’s resignation as the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and urged him to continue in his post till the new government assumed office.

Sheikh Hasina was scheduled to leave Dhaka for New Delhi on Friday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Modi, who is set to become the Prime Minister of India for a third consecutive term.

Earlier on Wednesday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited his Bangladeshi counterpart to attend the swearing-in ceremony during a conversation over the telephone.
