Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has blamed BNP for introducing “curfew democracy” in the country, saying that the speech of democracy is utterly indecorous in their faces.
“BNP staged a ‘yes-no’ vote in the name of multi-party democracy. Now, they are speaking about democracy. It is akin to the devil listening to the scriptures,” Quader said while addressing a press conference held at the party president’s political office in Dhanmondi on Friday.
Citing instances of democratic practices in different countries in the world, he said, “There is no perfect democracy in any country in the world when we have been conducting elections regularly upholding the democratic norms and values.”
“We are very close to the practice of perfect democracy and our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very sincere in this regard. We have already proved our progress,” Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said.
He said a total of 45 people, including children and women, were killed in an offensive attack in Rafah in a single day. Meanwhile, a country that claims to be democratic and humanitarian stated that Rafah has not yet crossed the red line. “So, where are the human rights”? Quader said.
About the overall economy, the Awami League leader said the government has managed to maintain a balance in the country’s overall economy despite facing many challenges amid the global crisis.
“The World Bank has already supported the Tk 7, 96,900 crore national budget for fiscal 2024-25,” he said.
