Claiming the neighbouring India as a trustworthy friend, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that his party does not believe in slavery to anyone.
“People are the lone source of our force. We maintain a friendly relationship with India for our own sake instead of slavery,” Quader, also Road Transport and Bridge Minister, said this while addressing a programme in Mohammadpur area of Dhaka on Saturday.
Trashing BNP’s frequent allegation that the ruling Awami League is in power at the behest of India, Quader said Bangladesh has incurred significant losses over the past 21 years due to the absence of a strong relationship with India. “We don’t return to the past.”
Those who were in power for 21 years before 1996 have developed a hostile relationship with India and they failed to realise due rights from the neighbour, however, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took the relationship to a new height erasing all mistrust, he said.
