PM distributes relief material to poor people in Tungipara

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina distributed relief materials to impoverished people of her electoral area Gopalganj in Tungipara on Friday.

She handed over reaper machines, fertiliser, rickshaw-van, sewing machines and financial donations to the poor people as gifts aiming to empower them towards self-sufficiency.

Earlier, the prime minister participated in a discussion meeting held at the Upazila Awami League office on the Amar Bari Amar Khamar project.

She distributed different kind of relief materials, including 10 bicycles, 10 rickshaw-vans, 30 sewing machines, financial grants of Tk 40,000 to 38 individuals, 10 pairs of pigeons, and educational materials to 38 students.

Prime Minister’s younger sister Sheikh Rehana and her designated representative for the development activities in the constituency Md Shahid Ulla Khandkar, among others, were present during the relief distribution programme.

Earlier in the day, Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes and offered prayers at the mausoleum of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara.

She paid homage by placing a floral wreath at Bangabandhu’s grave and joined a prayer this morning seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of August 15, 1975 carnage.

After laying the wreaths, she stood in solemn silence for some time as a show of profound respect to the memory of the architect of independent Bangladesh.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s younger daughter Sheikh Rehana and other family members were also present at that time.

Sheikh Hasina, also President of the Awami League, reached her ancestral home at Tungipara in Gopalganj by road after crossing the Padma Bridge.

She also returned to Dhaka this afternoon.

Md. Abdul Wadud, the State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives; Sheikh Helal Uddin, Member of Parliament from the Bagerhat-1 constituency; Sheikh Salauddin, Member of Parliament representing Khulna-2; Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker, former senior secretary and designated representatives overseeing development projects in Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s constituency Gopalganj-3; and Al-Beli Afifa, Gopalganj Police Superintendent were present at the event among the guests.

Besides, Gopalganj Mayor Sheikh Rakib Hossain and his family members, Gopalganj Awami League President Mahbub Ali Khan, and the General Secretary GM Sahabuddin Azam, and other local AL leaders and activists attended the event.
