Upazila poll candidate show caused in Brahmanbaria

Staff Reporter:

The Brahmanbaria district administration has asked Bijoynagar upazila polls candidate Md Al Jaber to explain why his candidature should not be cancelled as he breached the election code of conduct by holding rallies on Friday.

Al Jaber is a former president of Bijoynagar upazila’s Chhatra Dal unit. He has been asked to explain his position on Sunday in-person at the office of Returning Officer Md Abdullah Al Mamun in the district administration office.

The show cause notice served by the returning officer claims to have video evidence and other precise data on Al Jaber’s deliberate code violation activities. He was holding processions, masses and showdowns on Friday afternoon, the notice claims.

Al Jaber then repeatedly ignored phone conversations with the local upazila nirbahi officer, police station officer-in-charge and election officials where the officials urged him to stop his public rallies in violation of election codes.

Afterwards, police reached the spot to urge him to stop, but he still did not respond promptly.
