Chattogram: The Greater Chattogram Public Transports’ Owners and Workers Unity called off the 48-hrs long strike they called on yesterday after 12 hours on Sunday afternoon.
The announcement came from the Greater Chattogram Public Transports’ Owners and Workers Unity after a meeting with district administration officials on Sunday afternoon.
Manjur Alam Chowdhury, the association’s convener, announced it saying, “Considering public interest at the request of the honorable district administrator, we have ended the 48-hour ongoing strike. We thank the district administrator for accepting our demands. If such a situation arises again, we will call for a strike again.”
Earlier, transport workers and owners protesting the bus burning by Chittagong University of Engineer-ing and Technology (Cuet) students centering the deaths of their two fellows in a tragic road crash on April 22, a 48 hour bus strike was called beginning from 6am on Sunday in Chattogram division to press home their four-point demand.
