Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will name a road and a park after Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, DNCC sources have said.
Sources said that the road from ECB Chattar to Kalshi intersection will be named after Sheikh Tamim while a new park at the Kalshi Balur Math will be named after the Qatari emir.
The emir will lead a 150-member Qatari delegation for a two-day visit to Bangladesh. The delegation is expected to reach the country on 22 April.
The decision on naming the road and park was approved in the DNCC 26th corporation board meeting on 4 April as per a government directive, sources said.
Talking to the Daily Sun, DNCC Secretary Mohammed Masud Alam Siddique said, “The name plaque(s) of the park and road will be unveiled on 23 April in the presence of the Qatari emir. DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam is also scheduled to attend the unveiling event.”
The secretary said that the naming would symbolise the long-lasting friendship between Bangladesh and Qatar.
