Bangladesh Bank (BB) server was restored after seven hours of disruption because of a technical glitch.
Muhammad Zakir Hasan, executive director of the ICT infrastructure maintenance and management de-partment of the central bank, said that they experienced a technical error in the IT system and started working to resolve the issue.
“Finally, it was fixed around 7:30 pm. The entire networking system is now running smoothly,” he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the server was down and the interbank payment system remained disrupted since noon due to a technical glitch.
Local and international payment settlement, including cheque clearing, has been disrupted. The National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB) system introduced to facilitate card-based inter-bank transactions was also closed.
Daily transactions of Tk 400 crore have been done through NPSB but the transactions were suspended.
Managing directors of several private banks told that they suspended all local and international payments after having a trouble with the BB server.
