Tight security at Shaheed Minar

Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) M Khurshid Hossain yesterday said there is no securi-ty threat at the central Shaheed Minar centering the observance of the International Mother Language Day on February 21.
“We have strengthened the security measures centering the Shaheed Minar for the smooth celebration of the Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day,” he said this while addressing a press briefing at Central Shaheed Minar premises.
M Khurshid Hossain, also an Additional Inspector General of Police (Adi-IGP), said so far the RAB forces have no information of any kind of threat in this regard, adding, however, we are ready to deal any kind of vandalism round the clock and in any situation.”
He confirmed the implementation of robust security protocols and security enhancements including in-stallation of seven CCTV cameras covering comprehensive 360-degree surveillances.
Replying to a question, the RAB DG said the cyber unit of the RAB is also playing a crucial role, tasked with monitoring online spaces to prevent spreading of false information and incitement.
Furthermore, the RAB has prepared for rapid response scenarios, including the deployment of a helicop-ter on standby 24/7 to manage any unforeseen incidents.
Sufficient numbers of RAB forces have been deployed across the country including Dhaka to prevent all kinds of chaos and any unwanted situation, the RAB chief said.
“Since February 18, plainclothes members of the RAB have been conducting intelligence operations. Security arrangements have been taken at the Central Shaheed Minar in coordination with other law en-forcement agencies. Besides, RAB’s bomb disposal unit and dog squad will carry out necessary sweep-ing,” he said.
Suspicious persons and belongings will be searched by check posts, set up at surrounding areas of the central Shaheed Minar, M Khurshid Hossain said.
He said that precautionary measures have been taken to ensure safety of women and children and to pre-vent eve teasing. Monitoring system will be done across the country from the control room of the RAB headquarters.
