The country’s shrimp export has been declining due to reduced consumption and demand from foreign buyers for mixing jelly, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said on Thursday.
“Once, our country exported a significant amount of shrimp. However, the addition of harmful jelly caused a decline in the export,” he said while addressing a programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka this noon.
He also underscored the need to ensure the standard and quality of products and said there is still demand for quality products in various countries in the world.
“We must produce exportable products by ensuring quality and standard if we want to earn the confidence of foreign buyers,” said the commerce minister.
Calling upon all to come forward to ensure safe food, Majumdar said, “There was a shortage of food in the country but we got rid of the situation. Now, we are working to ensure safe food for all.”
