Cox’s Bazar: Sixty-three more members of Border Guard Police (BGP) of Myanmar have taken shelter in Bangladesh between Tuesday midnight and Wednesday afternoon amid the constant heavy fighting between the Myanmar army and the anti-military rebel freedom fighters along the border.
They entered Bangladesh through Uluboniya border area of Whykong union in Teknaf upazila, said local chairman Nur Ahmed Anowari.
Currently, they are under BGB custody, the chairman added.
With these 63 new BGP, a total number of 337 Myanmar’s BGP, army personnel, immigration members and others have taken shelter in Bangladesh, said Shariful Islam, public relations officer (PRO) of Bor-der Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The fighting between the insurgent group Arakan Army and the Myanmar military has caused many res-idents to leave their homes for safety, BGB sources said.
