Nepal to follow community clinics concept

Health and Family Welfare Minister Professor Dr Samanta Lal Sen yesterday said the Nepalese govern-ment is keen to follow community clinic concept of Bangladesh in the health sector.
“Bangladesh government will extend all necessary cooperation to Nepal for implementing community clinics concept in the health sector,” he made the
assurance when Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari met with
him at his ministry here, an official release said.
During the meeting, the Nepalese ambassador said Bangladesh achieved impressive success in the health sector through developing innovative models and initiatives, the press release added.
He described the community clinic model as an extraordinary one as it has been keeping significant con-tribution to the lives of common people.
Ghanshyam Bhandari said the Nepalese government wanted to implement community clinics model in their health sector.
Samanta Lal said, “Community clinic concept is the brain child of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The people in rural areas are getting healthcare facilities from the community clinics.”
The health ministry sources said in 2023, community clinics got global recognition as a resolution on community-based healthcare in Bangladesh was unanimously adopted at the United Nations (UN).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina developed the community-based healthcare innovative service initiative and under the initiative, community clinics have been established in the country to provide healthcare services to the people.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched this unique community clinic-based health system in Bangladesh in 1998 with the aim of bringing all the people of the country under primary health care. The present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has established 14,000 community clinics in the coun-try.
