10 to die for raping housewife in Subarnachar

Noakhali: A court in Noakhali yesterday sentenced 10 people to death and six others to life imprison-ment in a case filed over raping a housewife in Subarnachar upazila in 2018.
Judge Fatema Ferdous of Noakhali Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 handed down the verdict in presence of 15 convicts before the court this morning.
The convicts are– M. Sohel, 38, M. Hanif, 30, Swapan, 42, M. Chowdhury, 25, Ibrahim Khalil, 25, M. Badshah Alam, 40, Abul Hosen, 40, Mosharrof, 35, M. Jasim Uddin, 32, M. Salahuddin, 32, M. Jasim Uddin, 32, M.Hasan Ali, 45, M. Murad, 28, M.Jamal alias Henju Majhi, 28, M. Shoel, 28 and M. Mintu alias Helal, 28, of Subarnachar Madhyam Bagya village.
Among the convicts, M. Mintu alias Helal is absconding since the case was filed.
According to the case, on December 30, 2018, a 40-year-old woman was beaten and gang-raped in her house while her husband and children were tied up right beside her.
On December 31, the day after the incident, victim’s husband filed a case with Char Jabbar Police Sta-tion.
After investigation of the case, the district detective police (DB) filed a charge-sheet against 16 people on March 27, 2019.
