Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested six transport extortionists from capital’s Kadomtali area on Sunday night.
The arrested are Md. Shoel, 46, Md, Rakib,20, Md, Rubel,29, Md. Rabiul Hasan,22, Md. Al Amin,21 and Shawon,25.
They all are from Capital’s Kadomtali, Shempur, Postogola areas and Patuakhali, Madaripur districts, Deputy Director of RAB-10 Aminul Islam told yesterday.
Acting on a tip off, a team of RAB-10 conducted a drive in Shempur Chips Factory area of Kadomtali police station in the city and arrested them on Sunday night, he said.
The RAB also recovered extortion money worth Taka 4,080 from their possession.
In preliminary investigation, the extortionists admitted that they have been allegedly taking money from the drivers of inter-district truck, covered van, lorry CNG vehicles plying in Kadomtali and surrounding areas of the capital.
Necessary legal action has been taken against them and they have been handed over to respective police station.
