Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said the BNP would soon realise the blunder the party has made by boycotting the 12th parliamentary election.
“The BNP has no hope now as there are no sanctions and visa restrictions,” he said at a programme organised to distribute blankets among the cold-hit destitute people at Dhanmondi-32 in the capital.
Coming down hard on the major opposition, Quader said BNP’s black flag procession denotes they are observing mourning, conceding defeat in politics.
The Awami League leader issued a warning saying if the opposition party resorts to violence in the name of waging movement, the matter will be dealt with strictly.
He claimed leaders and activists of the BNP have been arrested in cases based on specific allegations.
“The home minister told me that 11,000-12,000 accused BNP men are now behind bars though the party claims the figure is as high as 25,000,” he added.
