Chief Election Commission (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has heaved a sigh of relief saying that the country has got rid of a crisis through the 12th parliamentary election.
“The nation came out of a crisis which was a matter of concern. But, I do not consider it as a permanent solution,” Awal said while addressing a thanksgiving event held at the commission office in Dhaka on Thursday.
The program was arranged to express gratitude to the officials and staff who contributed to the organisation of the 12th national election, ensuring a free and fair process throughout the country on January 7.
The nation’s overall progress and development will face hindrances if a political crisis looms every five years, Awal said, calling upon the political leadership to find a permanent solution to this end.
Citing references to the previously held elections, he remarked that the 12th national election was held in a free and fair manner compared to the past. “But the matter is not like that the election has been very participatory,” he added.
