Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) formed a human chain on the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Thursday, protesting attacks on its former vice-president Mehdi Hasan Rony and his family members.
Mehedi Hasan Rony, who was BCL president of Jasimuddin Hall unit of DU, came under attack at his house in Dhanbari Upazila of Tangail on Wednesday night.
Miscreants vandalised his house and assaulted his family members during the night of Wednesday.
While addressing the human chain, the BCL leaders alleged that a group of people patronised by the local upazila parishad chairman carried out the attack as part of the politics of vengeance.
Alongside Rony former BCL vice presidents of DU unit Meherul Hasan Sohail, Sohan Khan, Saikatuzzaman Saikat, Rakib Hossain, its former general secretary Motahar Hossain Prince, former student leaders including Latiful Islam Nipul, Sohag, Sagar Ahmed, Shawkat Usman, Nazmul Hasan, among others, participated protest programme. Apart from this, leaders of various units of the BCL’s current committee were present.
