Chandpur: The body of a 105-year-old woman, who went missing three days ago, was recovered from a crop field in Matlab South upazila of Chandpur district on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rikabi Begum, wife of late Amir Ali Sawdagor of Sawdagor Bari in Chhar Mukundi area under Matlab municipality.
According to police and locals, a local woman spotted the body floating in water in a crop field on the eastern bank of the Dhonagoda River in the Uttar Baishpur area around 8:30am. while dis-posing of household wastewater. Hearing her screams, nearby residents gathered at the scene and notified the police, who later recovered the body.
The victim’s son, Bachchu Miah, said his mother left home around 4:00 p.m. on September 16 and did not return. He added that she had mental health problems and visual impairment and had wandered away from home on several previous occasions.
Hafizur Rahman Manik, Matlab South Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), said the body was sent to the Chandpur Government General Hospital morgue on Saturday afternoon for an au-topsy.
