Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) reportedly yesterday finalized its Secretary General, LGRD minister and most senior party leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the presidential candidate of the party.
Earlier yesterday afternoon BNP Vice Chairman and Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni and Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi collected the papers from the Returning Officer’s of-fice at the Election Building in Agargaon.
The Election Commission (EC) announced the schedule for the presidential election on Thursday, setting August 13 as the deadline for submission of nomination papers and August 20 for voting.
According to the schedule, nomination papers can be submitted from 10am to 4pm on August 13. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on August 16, while candidates can withdraw their nominations until 4pm on August 18.
Voting will take place at the session hall of the Jatiya Sangsad from 2pm to 5pm on August 20.
EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the Chief Election Commissioner finalized the elec-tion schedule in consultation with the Jatiya Sangsad Speaker in accordance with Section 5(3) of the Presidential Election Act, 1991.
He also said the voter list for the presidential election has already been prepared.
