The government has decided to set up 101-bed general hospitals in 521 upazials with a view to significantly enhancing health services capacity and quality in rural areas.
Among the 521 upazilas, new 101-bed hospitals would be established in 13 upazilas. In the rest of 418 upazilas, the existing health complexes, with a maximum 50-bed capacity, will be upgraded and expanded to 101-bed health facilities, according to a letter issued by the Health Services Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs.
The letter has been sent to the Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), instructing the official to accelerate work towards implementing the plan.
The DGHS has been asked to submit a proposal to the ministry regarding the required workforce and the development project plan.
