Staff Reporter:
A Dhaka court on Friday sent Tahsin Islam, 19, to jail after he was arrested for his alleged involvement in extremist activities linked to “Fatah Combat”.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Albiruni Mir passed the order following a petition filed by Inspector AB Siddique of Jatrabari Police Station.
Earlier on Thursday, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained Tahsin from Jashore. During a search of his room, police seized a machete, wires and several electronic devices.
Police produced him before the court after arresting him under Section 54 and sought a seven-day remand for interrogation.
However, the court rejected the remand plea and ordered him to be sent to jail, directing the investigation officer to submit a report by 26 July.
Law enforcement agencies are investigating allegations that an organisation named “Fatah Combat System (FCS)” has been encouraging youths towards extremism under the cover of martial arts training.
Six persons have previously been arrested in connection with the matter, and two of them are currently on remand while four are in jail.
Police said that during preliminary interrogation, Tahsin admitted his involvement with an organisation known as “Fatah Combat System”.
