Staff Reporter:

The government has promoted 172 deputy secretaries to the rank of joint secretary, said a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday, in what would be the first large-scale administrative promotion under the BNP government.

Later, a separate notification said seven more deputy secretaries will also be promoted.

They will be appointed as officers on special duty (OSD) and attached to the Ministry of Public Administration, the notification read.

The promoted officials can submit their joining letters directly to the senior secretary of the ministry or via email.

They have to mention their current workplaces, including any new station that has not been mentioned in the notification, in the joining letters.

The Prime Minister’s Office approved the promotions after a short list was submitted in the morning.

According to the ministry, the promoted officials include cadre officers from the BCS 24 and 25 batches who were deprived or neglected by the Awami League regime.

Earlier, as many as 190 officials from BCS 24 batch were recommended for promotion to the rank of joint secretary.
