Staff Reporter:

A suspected Indian smuggler was injured in firing by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the Barlekha border area of Moulvibazar on Saturday night.

Around 8:45pm, a BGB patrol team challenged two suspected Indian smugglers who allegedly attempted to attack the personnel with sharp weapons, according to a press release.

In self-defence and to bring the situation under control, BGB personnel opened fire, injuring one of them.

The injured individual and the other suspect fled across the border into India, read the release.
