Bus falls into Padma: Shipping ministry forms probe body

The Ministry of Shipping has formed an investigation committee following the incident of a bus of SB Super Deluxe Paribahan fell into the river at Daulatdia ferry ghat on Friday.

The ministry formed the committee to determine the cause of the incident and fix responsibilities regarding the bus that plunged from a pontoon into the Padma River.

According to a ministry order, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Mohammad Rafiqul Karim, NDC, will serve as the convener of the investigation committee.

A representative each from the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) will serve as members of the committee. Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Md Zakir Hossain will act as the member secretary.

The committee has been asked to investigate the cause of the accident, determine responsibilities and recommend necessary remedial measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The committee has also been authorized to co-opt additional members if necessary and seek assistance from relevant individuals or organizations.

It has been instructed to submit its investigation report to the Ministry of Shipping within seven working days.

According to the ministry, no casualties occurred in the incident for maintaining the regulations strictly.
