Police recovered the hanging body of a High Court Division employee from the ‘Bijoy 71’ building on the Supreme Court premises on Monday afternoon.
The deceased, Mohammad Kamal Uddin, 47, was a court assistant, locally known as a jamadar, attached to Justice Syed Enayet Hossain of the High Court Division.
According to eyewitnesses and police sources, a security official alerted the authorities after noticing Kamal’s body hanging outside a washroom window on the eighth floor of the ‘Bijoy 71’ building.
Upon receiving the information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the scene and carried out the necessary forensic examinations and crime scene procedures. Police from Shahbagh Police Station later recovered the body.
Citing CCTV footage collected from the building, police said Kamal had entered the area alone.
Sheikh Zahidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of the Ramna Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said the body would be sent to the morgue at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for an autopsy after the completion of the necessary legal formalities.
“We are still investigating whether it was a case of suicide. If any other factors were involved, that can only be determined after a proper investigation and the post-mortem examination,” he added.
