Heavy rain halts launch services at Sadarghat Terminal

Staff Reporter:

Water transport services at the capital’s Sadarghat launch terminal have been temporarily suspended due to heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions affecting large parts of the country.

The Ministry of Shipping confirmed the suspension on Tuesday (26 May) through an SMS notification, stating that all types of launch operations from Sadarghat have been halted until further notice.

Earlier in the morning, ferry and launch services on the Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes were also suspended by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) due to severe stormy winds and heavy rain.

Officials said that around 11:20 am, sudden dark clouds and intense rainfall hit the Paturia and Aricha ferry terminals, prompting authorities to suspend operations to avoid potential accidents.

However, there was partial relief later in the day as ferry services on the Paturia–Daulatdia route resumed at around 12:00 pm, approximately 40 minutes after suspension, following a slight improvement in weather conditions.

Despite the resumption of some ferry operations, launch services at Sadarghat and other routes remain suspended until the weather situation stabilizes, leaving many passengers stranded and waiting for updates on their journeys.
