The government has officially formed Bogura City Corporation by incorporating the existing municipality and adjacent expanded areas, making it the country’s 13th city corporation.
The newly formed city corporation will consist of 21 wards.
The Local Government Division issued a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday night.
In a separate notification, the government amended the First Schedule of the Local Government (City Corporation) Act to include Bogura City Corporation.
Earlier on 7 May, the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR), chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, approved the proposal for the formation of Bogura City Corporation.
According to the gazette, the northern boundary of the new city corporation includes Nishindara Union No. 3 under Bogura Sadar, part of Rajapur Union No. 5 under Bogura Sadar, and Shakharia Union No. 6 under Bogura Sadar.
To the south, the area includes Ashekpur Union No. 1, Madla Union No. 2 and Majhira Union No. 3 under Shajahanpur upazila.
The eastern boundary includes Subgram Union No. 2, Rajapur Union No. 5 and Madla Union No. 2, while the western side includes Fapore Union No. 1 and Erulia Union No. 4 under Bogura Sadar.
The notification stated that the initiative to establish the city corporation was undertaken in accordance with the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2009, by combining the existing Bogura municipality with surrounding expanded areas.
As part of the process, the Bogura deputy commissioner was instructed to issue a public notice seeking opinions under the Local Government (City Corporation) Establishment Rules.
Later, the deputy commissioner submitted a report supporting the establishment of the city corporation after completing the required procedures. Based on that report, the government finalised the decision to establish Bogura City Corporation.
