Five members of a family stabbed dead in Kapasia

Five members of a family, including the wife and children of an expatriate, were killed in a brutal stabbing incident in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur.

The incident took place late Friday night (8 May) in Rautkona village of the upazila.

The victims were identified as Sharmin Begum (32), wife of accused Furkan Mia, his brother-in-law Rasel Mia (22), and his three daughters—Mim (14), Habiba (10), and Faria (2).

They had been living in a rented house in Rautkona village, Kapasia upazila of Gazipur district, after moving from Gopalganj town in search of livelihood opportunities.

Police and local sources said the victims were killed at some point during the night. Those killed include the expatriate’s wife, his three daughters, and his brother-in-law.

The attackers also reportedly looted gold ornaments and cash from the house. The exact motive behind the killings has not yet been determined.

Officer-in-Charge of Kapasia Police Station, Md Rafiqul Islam, said police were sent to the scene immediately after receiving information. Details will be confirmed after investigation.
