SM Tarek Ali, a Bangladeshi worker who was killed in Bahrain by missile debris amid the ongoing war in the Middle East, was laid to eternal rest in Chattogram city on Saturday.
His namaz-e-janaza was held in the Nayabazar area of Halishahar, and later, he was buried at a local graveyard.
On 2 March, Tarek met the tragic end by missile debris during the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran.
His body reached Dhaka on 3 April and was brought to Chattogram early Saturday.
Tarek, who hailed from Azimpur union under Sandwip upazila in the district, is survived by his wife, a daughter, and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
He lived with his family in Halishahar, and he last came to the country on vacation around one and a half years ago.
Tarek had been working in Bahrain for 17 years and was employed at a shipyard company near the country’s capital, Manama.
His daughter, Tasneem Tamanna, saw her father for the first time on Saturday since his passing when his body was returned.
With a heavy heart, she told the media, “I got to see my father for a moment, this is my consolation.”
Addressing those gathered before the funeral prayer, local lawmaker Sayeed Al Noman said Tarek worked hard for his family and the country as well.
“We can only pray that he be granted paradise. It is painful that his grieving family had to wait thirty days for his mortal remains,” he added.
