Khulna: Two paddy field workers were killed and 11 were injured when a truck overturned in Tala upazila of Satkhira district on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Saidul Gazi, 38, son of Taleb Gazi, and Manirul Islam, 30, son of Tofazzal Hossain, of Koyra upazila in Khulna.
The accident occurred around 6 am at Kati Sardarbari Battola when the truck carrying 13 paddy field workers, who went to harvest paddy in Gopalganj from Koyra upazila, overturned as the driv-er lost control over the vehicle, leaving two dead on the spot and 11 others injured, said Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station.
Zahidul Islam, one of the workers, said they got 20-25 maund of paddy as wage during the harvest-ing period and that’s why they went for work.
They also blamed the undergoing road expansion work behind the accident.
