Key KNF figure detained

RAB forces have detained a key KNF militant, who is also involved in a string of bank robberies in April in Bandarban, the elite force said in a press statement.

The court has already sent to jail the accused named Shanzu Khum Bom. The police produced him at the Bandarban Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Thursday, having taken him under custody from RAB.

In his preliminary confession, Shanzu had admitted that he is a key member of the indigenous separatist group KNF. He is the president of KNF unit at Farukpara area of Bandarban Sadar upazila.

Shanzu has admitted he is involved in providing necessary supplies to KNF fighters active in different parts of Bandarban hill tracts. He has also confirmed his role in the kidnapping of a Sonali Bank branch manager, bank heists and snatching of weapons from law enforcers back in early April.
