The Foreign Voluntary Organisations (Regulation of Acquisition of Immovable Property) Bill, 2024 was placed in Parliament on Thursday putting bar on foreign voluntary organisations to purchase, donate, exchange or otherwise acquire any immovable property within Bangladesh without the prior approval of the Government.
Land Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda placed the bill and it was sent to the respective scrutiny committee for further examination.
The committee was asked to submit its report within 60 days.
This bill will replace the Foreign Voluntary Organisations (Acquisition of Immovable Property) Regulation Ordinance, 1983.
The proposed law said that no foreign voluntary organisation shall purchase or acquire any immovable property in Bangladesh without the previous permission of the Government.
Any immovable property acquired by any foreign voluntary organisation in violation of the provision of this section shall be liable to be forfeited to the Government.
