Writ filed seeking direction against ex-IGP Benazir

Staff Reporter:

A writ was filed with the High Court yesterday, pleading for its direction upon the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to probe severe allegations of corruption against former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed.
Supreme Court lawyer Md Salah Uddin Rigan filed the writ petition, saying he pleaded for court’s direc-tion as allegations of severe corruption came recently against Benazir on newspaper reports.
“I had filed an application with the ACC on April 4 for investigating the allegations raised against the former IGP. As my application went unheard, I sent a legal notice to the anti-graft body on April 18 for taking necessary steps in this regard. As that too went in vain, I filed the writ,” the writ petitioner said.
“Maybe Benazir did the corruption, maybe he did not, but the allegations should be probed as the gen-eral people think that he made huge assets through corruption. The real truth will only come out through investigation,” he added.
Md Salah Uddin Rigan also said the petition will likely to be heard by the court this week.
