The Chattogram Cyber Tribunal on Monday issued an arrest warrant against former DUCSU Vice President Nurul Haque Nur in a case filed under the Digital Security Act over Nur’s alleged malign remarks against the prime minister and education minister.
Advocate Shahriar Yasir Arafat Tanim, a former leader of Chattogram university BCL, filed the case in June 2022 alleging that Nur made indecent remarks against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, and the ruling party’s affiliated bodies in an anti-government rally on 1 June 2022.
Nur had called members of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the ruling government’s student outfit, thugs, Advocate Shahriar alleged.
After the hearing, the Chattogram Cyber Tribunal ordered the CID to investigate the matter on 14 June 2022.
CID submitted charge sheet on 6 February this year, and on Monday Judge Md Zahirul Kabir issued the arrest warrant against Nur based on the charge sheet.
