Shawwal moon not sighted, Eid-ul-Fitr on Thursday

Staff Reporter:

Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated in Bangladesh on Thursday as the Shawwal moon was not sighted anywhere in the country’s sky on Tuesday.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee this evening after reviewing the information about the Shawwal moon sighting.

Speaking at a press briefing after the meeting, Religious Affairs Minister Md Faridul Haque Khan said the new crescent moon was sighted nowhere in Bangladesh today and Wednesday will be the last day for the month of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, thousands of people have left the capital to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones at their respective village homes.
