Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) this evening claimed to have rescued Sonali Bank’s Ruma branch manager Nezam Uddin, who was held hostage by the armed separatist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) on Thursday.
The RAB headquarters shared the development with the media in a text message around 7:45 pm.
The elite force rescued the abducted bank official from Ruma Bazar area and he was being taken to its Bandarban camp, according to the source.
The KNF abducted Nezam after failing to rob the Sonali Bank’s Ruma branch and demanded a ransom of Tk 15 lakh from his family members for his safe release.
Later, during a press conference held at Bandarban Zilla Parishad auditorium, Nizam’s wife Nazmul Nahar said that she received a phone call from the KNF and she had been asked to pay a ransom of Tk 15 lakh.
