The death toll from a fire, which broke out after an oil tanker overturned on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Hemayetpur in Savar on Tuesday morning, reached to four yesterday with the death of two more vic-tims.
The deceased were identified as Md Sakib, 15, helper of the truck driver and son of Abed Ali of Barguna district and Helal Hawladar, truck driver.
Tariqul Islam, resident surgeon of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Sakib was undergoing treatment at the hospital with hundred percent burn injuries.
He breathed his last around 1:20 am, said Tariqul.
Md Naim, elder brother of Sakib, said Sakib started working four months ago.
“I was informed that Sakib received burn injuries while going to a wholesale market in Gazipur with watermelon on Tuesday. When I went to the burn unit I saw that he was fully burned,” said Naim.
Meanwhile, Helal Hawladar, 30, the truck driver, who also received hundred percent burn injuries, died at 9:30 pm on Tuesday at the hospital.
Earlier, Iqbal, a truck helper, was burnt to death and nine others were injured in a fire which broke out just after an oil tanker overturned on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar on Tuesday morning.
The fire spread fast engulfing a private car, one cement-laden truck, one watermelon carrying truck and a lorry.
Injured Milon Molla, 22, Al-Amin, 35, Nironjan, 45, Helal, 30, Abdus Salam, 35, Sakib, 15, Md Al Amin, 22, Nazrul Islam, 45 and Mim, 10 were taken to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Among the injured, Nazrul Islam died after being taken to the hospital.
